{"id":14,"date":"2018-07-21T15:49:18","date_gmt":"2018-07-21T21:49:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.kc0dtu.us\/?p=14"},"modified":"2018-07-21T15:49:18","modified_gmt":"2018-07-21T21:49:18","slug":"next-level-license-on-to-the-next-adventure","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.n2dee.com\/index.php\/2018\/07\/21\/next-level-license-on-to-the-next-adventure\/","title":{"rendered":"Next level license, on to the next adventure&#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I wish I had started this website a 6 weeks ago when I got my first radio (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/B06Y2697RX\/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=9325&amp;creativeASIN=B06Y2697RX&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;tag=kc0dtu-20&amp;linkId=20405619183895c299cf045e8837d7e4\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Yaesu FT-70DR<\/a> &#8211; great radio, digital modes, unfortunately only 2-3 C4FM repeaters in the area)&#8230; and replaced it with my second radio (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/B076W9DYM3\/ref=as_li_qf_asin_il_tl?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=kc0dtu-20&amp;creative=9325&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;creativeASIN=B076W9DYM3&amp;linkId=f9d25567c7d2e6c0dcdba410f92b77ad\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">AnyTone AT-D868UV<\/a>; solid radio, it did DMR which was why I got it, but a klunky as hell UI on it, so ended up returning it, too)&#8230; and now replaced it with two Amazon Prime Day deals with a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/B00MAULSOK\/ref=as_li_qf_asin_il_tl?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=kc0dtu-20&amp;creative=9325&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;creativeASIN=B00MAULSOK&amp;linkId=1c8c63337546c486633ee42eb03a60b2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Baofeng BF-F8HP<\/a> (8 watt, dual band) and a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/B01J2W4JUI\/ref=as_li_qf_asin_il_tl?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=kc0dtu-20&amp;creative=9325&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;creativeASIN=B01J2W4JUI&amp;linkId=85c21ea108a617ae294a887a1134e337\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">BTECH UV-5X3<\/a> (5 Watt, 2M, 1.25M, 70cm).\u00a0 \u00a0I figured for a total of $84, I could <!--more-->afford to be unhappy with either one of them, but at least I&#8217;d be on the air.\u00a0 I do hope the DMR radios get more user friendly.\u00a0 I could cope with having to do the programming through the &#8220;code plug&#8221; software, but was not impressed with some of the gyrations I had to go through on the UI to do what I wanted to do &#8212; basic stuff like a quick change between Name display and Freq display.<\/p>\n<p>Passed my Tech last month, and my General test this morning, so now with the studying behind me, and two radios that I know I&#8217;ll keep for awhile (may not love &#8217;em, but, they&#8217;re here to stay), I can figure out what direction I want to go next with the hobby.\u00a0 \u00a0The &#8220;SOTA&#8221; (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sota.org.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Summit on the Air<\/a>) looks pretty cool, esp to go along summertime activities.\u00a0 \u00a0Maybe look more into APRS (Automatic Packet Reporting System) uses, too.<\/p>\n<p>More stuff to keep me busy&#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I wish I had started this website a 6 weeks ago when I got my first radio (Yaesu FT-70DR &#8211; great radio, digital modes, unfortunately only 2-3 C4FM repeaters in the area)&#8230; and replaced it with my second radio (AnyTone AT-D868UV; solid radio, it did DMR which was why I got it, but a klunky [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paid_content":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[4],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-14","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-licensing"],"jetpack_featured_media_url":"","jetpack-related-posts":[{"id":157,"url":"https:\/\/www.n2dee.com\/index.php\/2019\/08\/19\/kc0dtu-is-now-n2dee\/","url_meta":{"origin":14,"position":0},"title":"KC0DTU is now N2DEE","author":"dsdee","date":"August 19, 2019","format":false,"excerpt":"Same guy, same radios, just a new callsign...
